Poem: Writing Daze

They walk around me while I write,
with a hey, ho, and a hey nonnie nah,
They spin around me while I write,
talking, laughing in my sight,
watch my face go red and my knuckles white,
with a hey, ho, and a hey nonnie nah.

They do the laundry while I write,
with a hey, ho, and a hey nonnie nah,
they sort the colors from the white
and the dryer tumbles - no end in sight,
the sound drives my words into the night
with a hey, ho, and a hey nonnie nah.

I hear them fighting while I write,
with a hey, ho, and a hey nonnie nah,
Son's phone is ringing half the night -
they scream and moan and nothing's right,
my chain of thought breaks up in flight
with a hey, ho, and a hey nonnie nah.

My husband finds me as I write,
with a hey, ho, and a hey nonnie nah,
slips arms around me, holds me tight.
Romance on screen doesn't look quite right -
research time! I turn off the light,
with a hey, ho, and a hey nonnie nah.
