So there I was,

contemplating the plotline for my work in progress Behind the Waterfall, and realized, even though the first chapter looked lovely, I hated the female protagonist. I hated the first person way I had set it up.  I didn't really want to write the crisis that sets the book rolling, although I had outlined it, and wrote scene synopses and some of the scenes.

So I asked myself about what I really wanted to write.  How I wanted to write it...and an idea came up that will probably dovetail into the plot line I've already worked up.

Let's see how it goes.

I've had similar things happen with my writing. ^_^

Yep. Now if it'll get me over the stall, I will be happy!

My creative process frequently takes a left turn at Albuquerque and hares off down the turnpike to Other Options. Makes me pull my hair out, but often what results is even better than the original.

At least your new idea dovetails into your existing plot. I ended up chucking an entire year's work and starting over from scratch.

I think it will...will take some smoothing, but I will give it a chance...

Yeah, when Pink says "do this," she's usually right...after all, she is the personification of my inner story teller and editor.

I did something similar. I put the damn book away for over a year to let it fester...and then came back to it. It is now part of my PhD research. I expect there to be some kind of payoff, you know, like a degree, Or at least a rash.

I'm sitting on another manuscript. It has problems, but it's a complete draft. I just haven't gotten to the point I want to wrestle with it...sigh. Made the protagonist behave the way I needed to her without showing the growth that made it possible. I'll be inspired one day.

Glad you have worked this out and are ready to go forward
