Oooh....and Yay!

I should be getting my new Kindle today.

I already have a mess of books for it.  A whole shelf of historical and folk lore reference I don't have to carry as paper volumes if I wanna go sneak off in the corner somewhere and look stuff up.  Washington Irving's stuff about the Fur Trade.  Lots of of fairy tale collections.  You don't know how giddy the knowledge that I don't have to find places to pack and store and lug that weight around makes me...

Yeah...I'd been struggling with wanting an ereader...hubby told me I should get the kindle, rather than say one of the others. Not like Amazon's going to get out of the business in the near future...and it can read .mobi format, which means it can handle a lot of stuff. Also learned that the internet archive has a lot of it's public domain collection downloadable into kindle format right now...the texts go right into my kindle folder on my puter.

I've been waffling between a Kindle and the Sony ereader, mainly because you can't download most ebooks from the library onto a Kindle, vs the Sony.

I think I'm leaning towards the Kindle because the selection of ebooks at the library is sparse at best, and AMazon has all of the books I look for consistently.

Is it the Internet Archive that you are getting your stuff?

I had been waffling between Kindle and Nook, for similar reasons...

I get a lot of it there...also googlebooks, but I'm gonna have to translate the pdfs I have from googlebooks into mobi format, I think...haven't tried to do any of that yet. Internet archive has some books from googlebooks in their archive, but not all of them.

Also, Amazon has a lot of free books, classics and promo books.

That's awesome! I was talking to my mom the other day about Kindle verses the Nook. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Exciting news!

I've had my kindle for a while now. I love it!

Amazon also has different free books everyday too for the kindle. I have like 300 books on my kindle right now and have spent probably only like 30 dollars. I have a ton of the free public domain ones plus with Calibre (free program) you can put any ebook you have on your kindle. It converts them for you and helps you manage your library.

I looked at the nook and the sony ereader and the literai and went with the kindle. The color touchscreen is cool but it drains the battery like crazy. I rarely have to charge my Kidle. I didn't get the 3g one.
