It is irritating. I am writing a chapter of Nights in White Satin, but I am not about to post it until the counter comes back on.I thought it was just the fact that year ended, but it has been four days. I will go with 6 days from the time it went down.

I'm gonna be hopeful, and say sometime tomorrow afternoon.

I'm about ready to start the next chapter of Like a Flower in a Stream...I even have it outlined. But I'm not going to go forward with it until they get the counter more stable.

Instead, I'm working on a vignette set in Idaho, ca. 1835 about a lonely young man stuck in a cabin the snow at (probably) Pierre's Hole, and wishing he was back home at his daddy's farm in North Carolina. Loosely based on a memory of something I read in Osborne Russell's Journal of a Trapper....

Yuki Onna doesn't let me go easily come gray winter days...she must like my snow stories.

For I don't write story, I may ask... What's the problem with the hit counter on FF.net
Jan. 10th, 2011 08:51 pm (UTC)
It hasn't counted any hits since Friday....it breaks down a lot, been doing it with more frequency the last 6 months.

Oo, strange did you contact the webmaster?
Jan. 10th, 2011 09:26 pm (UTC)
Naw, this happens all the time.

I'm about ready to leave MM since no one can post, and hasn't been able to since mid-November.
Jan. 10th, 2011 09:28 pm (UTC)
I've posted there. Had no trouble, although it was just an edit of something I already had up. I've been told you need to upload .rtf files, which I already do. And other people have posted new works.
Jan. 10th, 2011 09:42 pm (UTC)
The site crashed in mid-November and since then the Ratings drop down doesn't work for new submissions. Ratings aren't showing in previously posted work, either. If you can't rate it, the site won't post it.

I did check the forum and people have been making the problem known, but the admins don't know what happened or how to reach the person who can fix it, from what I read.

I haven't tried to post new pieces; I've just seen them posted. Don't know the particulars. I updated After the End around Christmas time and it worked just fine.

You can update, just not post anything new. Or at least I haven't been able to.

It's been pretty flaky..maybe it has something to do with people's computer configurations working better with their software.
Jan. 11th, 2011 08:06 pm (UTC)
You could be right.
Jan. 11th, 2011 08:36 pm (UTC)
I'm beginning to wonder if some browsers are working better with it than others...I saw in firefox you couldn't add a rating, but I saw three or four new stories yesterday. Maybe try using chrome today. Now I'm curious.
Jan. 12th, 2011 01:55 am (UTC)
Currently I use Safari and it's not working. I didn't try Firefox because I read in the forums that isn't working, either. I do have Chrome and I'll check now... nope. The Ratings drop down doesn't work for Chrome, either.
Jan. 12th, 2011 02:02 am (UTC)
All that's left to try is IE and Opera...I want to know how those new stories got listed...
Jan. 12th, 2011 04:43 am (UTC)
I would like to know that, too. I'm not going to put IE on my new Mac and I don't know anything about Opera. I guess I'll have to wait.

I do hope your issue with FF gets resolved soon. :)

I hate IE. Opera's a fairly decent word processor, but I don't have it installed. Bleh. What choices....
Jan. 12th, 2011 05:29 am (UTC)
I know. Waaay too many.
Jan. 10th, 2011 10:31 pm (UTC)
Sueric has posted 6 chapters in the last 12 days on MM. The ratings on her reviews are working fine. Purity 9: Subterfuge just passed Purity 5: Phantasm for 22nd place on MM with almost 206,000 hits.

If she doesn't get Evan and V together soon, I'm gonna pull all my hair out. Someone had asked her for advice about file format, and that's where I heard .rtf formats work best right now.
Jan. 13th, 2011 03:05 pm (UTC)
Yesterday was Sueric's birthday. She posted a chapter called "Island Girl". Evan wanted an action. A vacation without V which was sort of a breakup. Instead, she talked Evan into taking her to his desert island alone. Nod. Nod. Wink. Wink. Know what I mean.
Jan. 13th, 2011 05:16 pm (UTC)
Oh, I read it faithfully...Evan should have known he couldn't go if V knew in advance...and just like he wanted to go off by himself for some fun on their first night there, and V talked him out of it...But still, there's got to be a special place on the wheel of karma for writers who torture their male characters like that...LOL.

It's strange that both ff and mediaminer experienced problems around the same time.
Jan. 12th, 2011 05:23 pm (UTC)
FF's hit counter problem's been an off and on problem since they changed it way back, almost 3 years ago...and it always crashes on New Year's day. But they get it working for awhile and keep on limping on...
Jan. 13th, 2011 01:35 pm (UTC)
And the winner is six days.
Jan. 13th, 2011 05:17 pm (UTC)
I saw...a few trickling in...
