What I have been doing....

What I have been doing while recuperating and not writing.....

spinning!  I dug out the spinning wheel, and slowly, much more slowly than usual at first, produced this ball of yarn, 3 oz of a fairly thin, nearly lace weight wool yarn.

Not very exciting, but it's been pleasant.

Wow! You could make a pretty shawl if you had a few more. :D
I like the soft ivory color to it. It reminds of those Fisherman sweaters. :D

Yeah, that's what undyed natural wool looks like if it's from a white fleece.

I have lots of wool to make more...and as long as I'm in the mood, I will!

Lovely :) Is it as soft as it looks?

pretty much so. It's spun worsted instead of woolen, so it could be softer (worsted spin is stiffer and takes wear better, and makes better sock yarn, for instance), but it is a fairly soft yarn.

Spinning's my favorite mindless relaxation activity...I really need to do it more often.

Even when you are recuperating and not writing, you are being productive. ^_^

it's beautiful and so uniform --not like silk with loads of slubs. i could touch that and have hives break out all over me-- although it's something i believe i would enjoy doing. do you have to card it and then spin it, i assume it comes already cleaned? can you do the same process with cotton?

i see TOES!

This wool came already ready to spin. I do have everything I need to do it from raw wool, though.

I have spun cotton; in fact, I learned to spin on cotton, cause it was the only fiber I had handy, but I much rather work with wool. I have also played a bit with silk and linen

I obviously have no wool or lanolin allergies; I have spun wool in the grease, as they say, unwashed fleece that you just run a dog slicker through a few locks and then spin...and have had no ill effects...Kind of nice, cause this is a pleasant hobby.
