Hadn't made a french knot (in embroidery) in maybe 12-14 years.  Amazed I remembered how to do it.

Funny how that works.

Haha! I tried to do that a couple years ago when working on a quilt and failed miserably. Thank god for YouTube.

Yeah, the net helps.

I used to do some fairly elaborate embroidery from time to time, but it's been awhile; so I was pretty pleased I remembered! It's not one of my favorite stitches.

For a Girl Guide badge, I once did an elaborately-patterned pillow case entirely in candlewick embroidery.

I haven't done a @#$! French knot since.

LOL! Don't blame you. The stitching on this isn't what I really like, which is satin stitch and interesting crewel based techniques and certain types of needlepoint, but hubby thought these were cute pillowcases, so I thought I'd give it a whirl...stem stitch, lazy daisy, french knot, and a little bit of satin...something to distract me when I need distracting....

Sounds like a nice little set of classic 'sampler' stitches; I should acquire a project like that for the curly-haired 'Athena' in the house. She taught herself to make knitted lace this summer, is eyeing her grandmother's sewing machine and is teaching herself to read tarot cards.

She did a practice reading the other day for the red-headed son and we were rolling on the floor by the third card because they were all so HIM that he accused her of stacking the deck!

Oh gads...that reminds me so much of me when I was a small fry...coolness! I was knitting and crocheting and doing embroidery by age 9, and I don't know when I learned simple handsewing, age 4 or 5...but I was making dresses by age 10 for sure. And my first stabs at period costumes by age 11....

LOL on the tarot reading!
