to remember those dark days
when the loneliness
cut through his heart like a sword –
that him once upon a time.
This him looked at her
sleeping there still beside him,
where the soft light of dawn
kissed her cheek and touched her hair,
dismissing shades of his past.
With a fingertip,
he traced her lips’ warm softness –
that him may have been
who he was upon a time,
with her, he had found his now.
