RL Pet adventurs

My poor doggie turns 15 in January. It's a good thing we just paid off our credit cards...poor old lady gets to have dental work for her 15th birthday...bloodwork done and antibiotics to start.

She did not have a pleasant day, but the news made me feel better.

Thought it sounded like a tooth and/or gum problem. Don't let them go too overboard at her age - she really just needs to be comfortable and able to eat.

Yeah, that's my goal, to get her comfy again and back on her feed. Don't think over-intervening on a dog her age improves the quality of life much...

Not to mention it's not really safe to have them under anesthetic at that age - hopefully the antibiotics will help.

Yeah, there is that...we're getting a lot of blood work done first, and they say they have some safer drugs...but it's still not something I'm doing lightly. But if it buys her some quality time, it'd be worth it.

If she needs an anti-inflmatory, Medacam seems to work really well and has been used safely in older dogs. It doesn't seem to have some of the problems like some of the others do. Plus, it's a liquid so it gets into their system fast - and apparently it tastes good because I go to give it to one and all of them are trying to get it.

I'll remember that...now if I can find ways to get some food down her without traumatizing her...sigh. I know the first few days of getting her antibiotics down is going to be rough.

Some of the antibiotics come in a liquid form you squirt in their mouth with a syringe. Maybe you should ask about those to use for at least the first few days.

And now they tell me two of her kidney enzymes are significantly elevated, and her platelet count is high...poor old lady dog...

Poor puppy. Hopefully, the pain now will make her feel much better later. Can we have a pic of her?
