Poem: Afternoon in the Park

Not IK

Afternoon in the Park

You walk  with me this summer’s day,
this summer’s day,
as bees drone by amid the flowers,
and birds play chase, and children too,
this summer’s day.

We walk beneath the tall green trees this summer’s day,
this summer’s day,
and feel the shadows dance with light
beneath the branches in the breeze
this summer’s day.

And I  remember other days this summer’s day,
this summer’s day,
of when you laughed at the stories I told you then,
Are your eyes as happy as you hold my hand,
this summer’s day?

You smile and gently touch my cheek this summer’s day,
this summer’s day,
And stick a flower in my hair,
purple and wild that was growing there,
this summer’s day.
