Drabble: Never Better

A morning dash of IK fluff for comfort.

Never Better

His hand, moving under the bed cover, slipped softly over the curve of her hip, sliding over her silky smooth skin as she rested next to him.  All was quiet and peaceful. There was very little sound except their even breathing, the beating of their hearts.  InuYasha loved these moments in the middle of the night when the fire burned low and the world closed down to just the two of them lying in the darkness, moments where there was no one else in existence that mattered or had a demand on their time and attention.

Fingers sliding to the small of her back, he pulled her closer, her head resting on his chest, the silk of her hair cascading over his arm.  He let his hand slide up her back.  Warm and solid and here, he thought.  Here.  He knew too well the feeling of her absence to take for granted the reality of nights like this, filled with her scent, her presence, the glide of her skin against his.

Kagome stirred a little and moved her arm to rest her fingers against his chest.  Her eyes fluttered open.  “You all right?” she asked.

“Never better,” he replied, and kissed the top of her head. “Get some sleep.”

“Umm,” she replied, snuggling into his warmth as she fell back asleep.

Not long after, he followed.
