Poem: Seasonality

Seasonality

So today,
surrounded by warmth
and green,
sunlight in my vegetable garden,
peas trailing up their trellis,
I am dreaming
of falling aspen leaves,
golden on the breeze,
and maple growing red
on the mountainside
and the first hints of winter air
carried on the calling of geese
flying across the sky.

When the days grow short,
and the snow falls
and the sky is dark,
I will think of my garden,
of lettuce and cabbage,
cucumber and tomato
in the warm bright light,
and the hum of wasp and bee
and wish I was there.

Funny how that works.
