Poem: Shadows

not IK...just stretching my poetic sense and playing with tanka sequence poetry before my morning coffee....

Shadows

The shadows chase me
as I wander through the field,
ignoring the signs
of spring change all around me,
the nodding of wild flowers.

The shadows chase me,
not quite visible by day,
wrapped up in my mind,
like unseen storm clouds building
to bring a sudden downpour.

The shadows chase me,
but sometimes I find shelter,
or the sun breaks through,
shining warmly on my heart –
storm clouds burned up by sunlight.

The shadows chase me,
as I watch a meadowlark
and somehow I smile.
Turning around I walk back,
this time chasing my shadow.
