Poem: A Walk Beside the Shore

Still writing the introspective poems:

A Walk Beside the Shore

Deep, deep, the mysteries
beneath your gray-green restless face,
deep, deep.

I watch the pelicans fly in their lines,
moving over the morning water,
smell the salt in the air,
and think of those gone on,
lost in your waters,
deep, deep.

Even in the sunlight, I feel your chill,
borne of wind, and tears and winter sorrow,
great mother of us all,
always in travail,
bearing us life,
taking us in death,
born always anew
of wind and sun and rain.
Swallower of all my I-ness,
I walk beside your shore,
and contemplate,
deep, deep.
