She looked at him standing there,
eyes of amber intensity,
studying the situation.
She could sense the adrenaline rising,
the way his eyes narrowed,
how he unconsciously flexed his claw-tipped fingers,
the way he stood, ready for anything.
Only she knew how anxious he was
as he softly began to growl.
“You told your mama what?” he said
in a dark gravelly voice
as he stared down the four year old in front of him,
almost his miniature image glaring back.
She walked around the corner
so the two of them
would not see her smile.
