Poem: Caught

Just a bit of fluff for a break while I'm working on something else...

Caught

He followed her laughter,
how it meandered in and out
beneath the green leaves
of the cherry trees,
just past their bloom,
and around the old pine,
half dead from a lightning strike years ago,
down to the willow thicket,
near the river bottom.

It was never really a chase,
more a game she played
to let him know his pursuit was wanted,
and now, near the cool stream
running clear, almost green.
over moss covered rocks,
she stepped out,
walked up behind him,
wrapped her arms around his middle.

“Got ya!” she giggled.

And as he turned,
looked into her blue-gray eyes
alive with this late spring afternoon,
he smiled,
bent over and brushed his lips across hers,
and wrapped his arms around her waist.

“Yeah, you do,” he breathed.  “You got me.”
