If you could hang out with any fictional character for a whole day, who would you choose, and why?
This one's easy for me. I've always known which character it would be. It would be Jubal Harshaw, one of the characters from Robert Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land. He is described as: "Jubal E. Harshaw, LL.B., M.D., Sc.D., bon vivant, gourmet, sybarite, popular author extraordinary, neo-pessimist philosopher, devout agnostic, professional clown, amateur subversive, and parasite by choice."
When I was a kid with writing aspirations, I wanted to grow up and be somewhat like him. Don't think I've made it yet, but he's always been one of my heroes, from his attitude, his ability to care, to see through the games people play, his libertarian viewpoints in a world that wasn't very libertarian, and for the fact he was a writer. Of all versions of the Wise Elder that Heinlein produced, he's far my favorite...and he's really the hero of Stranger, not Smith.
