Poem 26: Afternoon Delight

Wrote this as my 26th Napowrimo...

He heard her laughing,
a musical sound,
and turned
and watched her
watching their son
and saw,
as she turned to face him,
the delight in her eyes.

“Don’t look so serious, Daddy,”
she said,
taking three steps
to kiss him on the chin
before running to chase their boy
in the golden sunlight.

Flufull in the afternoon....

(No I don't have the flu, but I have been following the news.)

Yep,interesting to watch the start of an outbreak.

Today we see it spread:  according to the CDC, we have confirmed swine  flu in these states:

CA - 7, KS - 2, NYC - 8, OH - 1, TX - 2

There are suspected cases in New Zealand, France, Spain, Canada, other cases in NYC, Scotland.

The CDC confirmed that the train of flu showing up in the US is a genetic match for the Mexican flu, but the cases so far in the US seem milder.

Homeland Security has declared a public health emergency so if need they can free up resources and be ready to respond

Poem: Inertia

NOT IK, and although the speaker is I, it's not me of the here and now....could have been me once upon a time, though....

I remember how cold was the air
the day I left you standing there;
the wind was playing with your hair,
your breathing made a cloud.

You looked at me as if you knew
I would not return and nor would you –
I looked deeply in your eyes of blue
I tightened up my scarf.

“I’ll call you soon,” I said and smiled,
You nodded, eyes both sad and mild,
I heard the crying of a child,
when you sighed and turned away.

I meant to call, I meant to write,
When I heard you wed, my throat grew tight,
But I let you slip out of my sight –
Inertia wins again.
