I've had more than one person tell me they find writing relaxing.
I could never say that.
I have a compulsive need to communicate my stories...I love the conception, seeing the work take form under my hand, being able to tie neat bits and pieces into something, to see it grow, and to know it is something I made, that is as beautiful or moving or whatever that I can make it.
It's like when I knit socks. The act of knitting is repetitious, but it is wonderful to see it grow under my hand, especially when it's my own design and it works.
I don't consider writing or knitting relaxing. Fulfilling is probably more the keyword. I can't not do it, especially the poetry. A lot of it is hard work that I have to dig deep to get it to meet my standards. Very satisfying later, a lot of the time. I still sneak in and reread chapter 6 and chapter 11 of ATE. I was really pleased with how those came out.
It's worth it. But for me, the process is intense, pleasurable, frustrating, exciting, interesting, needful. But if I want to relax, I'll read! LOL.
Your mileage may vary!
