Part of a comment that the historian Stephen Turnbull made about his being a consultant for an upcoming film about the 47 Ronin:

In the souvenir shop of the shrine of the Forty-Seven Ronin in the town of Banshu-Ako in Japan you can buy a towel
with a depiction of every one of them in the guise of Hello Kitty.

Definitely it was one of those coffee hits the keyboard and monitor moments.

You told me once that nothing is bigger than Hello Kitty. That is just insidious.

I... what?

If I had coffee in my hand right now, it would definitely be on the keyboard!

I would say that nobody can beat the Japanese for kitsch... LOL...especially of the cute type.

Although I do think it rather high-handed of Hollywood to take on the 47 Ronin...Film's supposed to star Keanu Reaves, too.

*points at icon because it nicely depicts my facial expression*

If it was any where near April 1st, I'd accuse you of pulling my leg, lady. That very idea is beyond horrifying!

I pretty much agree...to me it's like a Japanese film company choosing to film the Battle of the Alamo, and choosing a nice aging Bishonen type to play Davy Crockett...

And after what Hollywood did to Alexander the Great and the Trojan War, I am not hopeful....
